Arts Program

Our Reggio-Emilia inspired art program places an emphasis on the process, not the product. During this process, children develop fine motor skills, language, visual spatial skills, problem solving and critical thinking. Miss Gaby, Surreybrook’s art teacher, works collaboratively with and supports teachers in developing projects with the children. These projects summarize learning experiences while using a variety of materials, tools, and techniques.

Through our Artist of the Month curriculum, Miss Gaby introduces the children to a brief biography of a renowned artist. They are then given the opportunity to explore that particular artist’s medium and create their own masterpieces. So far this year, we have studied Wassily, Chiuly, Kandinsky, Pablo Picasso, Claude Monet, Vincent Van Gogh, and Michelangelo. Each year, we invite our families to attend our Art Show where the children’s masterpieces are proudly displayed for everyone’s enjoyment!
